Free Dance Classes 2011

by the Masters and Pioneers of Belly Dance!

Here were the 2010 Teachers

(Teacher's classes and time subject to change)

Teachers Biography

11:00am to 11:15am : Andrea

12 noon to 12:15pm : Mahsati

1:00 pm to 1:15pm. : Cory Zamora

Cory Zamora has been formally trained in dance since 1953. Turning to midddle eastern dance in 1971, the bulk of her training is by fheruz aram and jenaeni rathor. Cory will teach what is requested of her at 1:00pm Sunday. Veil ties, zills with steps, floor work and perhaps something you saw her do the night before.

2:00 pm to 2:15pm. : Amina

Amina began dancing professionally in 1966 at San Francisco's famous Bagdad Cabaret and began teaching in 1971. Soon after, she founded The Aswan Dancers, the premiere Egyptian dance company and founded The Cairo Cats Band and co-founded The Arabian Knights Band and Layalli al Sharq. Amina also teaches percussion and Arabic song translation, pointing out understanding the music and the meaning of the lyrics is key to understanding the dance. She has played backup percussion for musicians such as Susu Pampanin, Reda Darwish, Loay Dahbour, Yusef Mustapha and Georges, Elias and Tony Lammam.

Amina continues to study, teach and perform. Besides teaching many on-going private classes she also teaches six regular dance classes a week, including a cabaret performance class. She currently plays backup percussion at a couple of nightclubs where she sometimes dances and spotlights other dancers. Amina sings and plays percussion  with Aswat, San Francisco's only Arabic choir specializing in classical Arabic music.

3:00 pm to 3:15pm : Seba

Seba is the Troupe Director of WildCard BellyDance. She has always loved dance in all its many forms. In 2002 she discovered American Tribal Style and it has been her passion ever since. What drew Seba to this style of dance is the intuitive connection that is felt between the dancers as they dance this synchronized group improvisation style of belly dance. Her passion for this style of belly dance has led her on an incredible journey. WildCard BellyDance performs nationwide at many fairs, festivals and private events. Seba has taught and performed around the world and teaches weekly classes in Sonoma County, CA. www.wildcardbellydance.com

4:00 pm to 4:15pm :

5:00 pm to 5:15pm : Alexandria's ghawazee...taught by Heather

6:00 pm to 6:15pm: Monica

Monica began studying belly dance in her teens, and has been performing professionally since the early 1990s and teaching since 2001. Along with her ongoing study of Middle Eastern and North African dances, Monica has studied the Arabic language and Middle Eastern drumming in order to expand the experience of belly dance as an ethnically rooted expression. Monica lives, teaches and performs in San Francisco, and has taught at Alonzo Kings Lines Dance Center since 2003. Along with her group class schedule, Monica teaches regular private classes and has been commissioned to create original work for several Bay Area troupes. More information about Monica can be found at http://www.monicaraqs.com
